There are many products that claim to help simplify potty training. Which potty training aids really make it easier to potty train a toddler?

There are potty training tools on the market but which ones are really needed? While many potty training tools are unnecessary and expensive, there are a few out there that are well worth the money when potty training a toddler.

Potty Watch from Potty Time

One of the most common battles, when it comes to potty training, is control issues between parent and child. Toddlers often feel like parents are trying to control them by forcing them to use the potty. Using a potty watch allows toddlers to regain their independence in the potty training process and take responsibility for learning how to use the potty. Using a potty watch allows toddlers to remind themselves when it is time to use the potty and can help potty training go much faster.

Reusable Training Pants

Disposable training pants are a popular option when potty training toddlers but they simply are not successful for most toddlers. Disposable training pants feel too much like a diaper and even training pants that change colors when they are wet provide no real immediate feedback to toddlers who are learning to use the potty. Reusable training pants, or thick training underwear and a plastic cover provide toddlers with a true feeling of wetness when they have an accident and leave them feeling uncomfortable and wanting to be dry again.

Since disposable training pants draw most of the wetness away from a toddler’s skin, toddlers do not really feel the consequence of having an accident. Accidents are part of the learning process. Reusable training pants allow toddlers to learn through accidents while still protecting clothing and furniture during the potty training process.

Potty Seats

There are many cute potty chairs on the market to help parents potty train toddlers who may not be quite bit enough to use an adult sized potty on their own. While many parents successfully use potty chairs to potty train toddlers, most potty chairs are messy and take up a lot of extra space. Potty chairs can be a good way to introduce young toddlers to the potty but they need to be cleaned out after every use.

Potty seats that fit on a standard toilet are much easier to clean, and make an easier transition when toddlers need to use a regular toilet (which can come in handy when out running errands). Some potty seats, such as the Potty Pal Standard Toilet Seat, actually attach to a standard size toilet seat and can be easily flipped up and out of the way when not in use.

Step Stool

A sturdy step stool can be used to help toddlers get onto the toilet by themselves and can be helpful to give toddlers a way to wash their hands on their own. Many toddlers learn how to get on a toilet by themselves before they are tall enough to reach the sink to wash their hands. Providing as step stool for toddlers to reach the sink makes it easy for toddlers to wash their own hands and encourages good hygiene habits.

Potty training can be successful only when a toddler has shown signs that he is developmentally ready to be potty trained and has a desire to learn to use the potty. Simple potty training tools can help parents and toddlers make the potty training process go smoother for everyone.
